Your backpacking guide ..

Right, you've decided that Cape Town South Africa is the coolest place in Africa to go backpacking. You've heard all about it from other Cape Town backpackers and you've probably read a bit about it.. So what's next?

First things first.. You'll have your foot in the door if you get yourself a printed backpacking guide or travel book on Cape Town. There are some really good books available complete with Cape Town maps.

The Spring/Summer season runs officially from November to April. It's generally a lot warmer - and sometimes really hot during those months. It's also a good time of year for backpacking in Cape Town - if you don't mind the tourists.. If you do mind ..there are some wild places around the Cape to hang out where you can avoid them.

The winters tend to be wet and windy - "like a baby", as they say down here, but then again the wind blows on and off all year round. You get some cooler days in summer and some warm days off season in the winter months.

How to get the best deal on flight tickets..

Booking your flight ticket online
Always make sure you know which airline you're going to be booked on when flying to South Africa in case you need to make changes before you leave. Once you've booked and paid for a specific flight ticket, expect to pay extra if you want to move to another flight.

One of the best ways to find and book a cheap flight is by using an online system which searches for and compares the rates charged by all the airlines servicing the route you require. You simply enter your departure and arrival points and the dates of your flights, and you are presented with a list of the different airline ticket rates. You then select and book the airline you require.

Cheaper travel and medical insurance..

Adequate travel medical insurance is essential for Cape Town backpacking tours, or backpackers anywhere for that matter.

When you're young, carefree, ready to conquer the world etc. then you may be thinking - "Who cares about insurance?" It is however a very necessary consideration, which is why I'm covering it in this backpacking guide.

There are a number of online companies marketing insurance for travellers, and many options available. Which one do you choose?

Think about it. Your best bet is international travel insurance aimed at your age group and based on the level of cover you require.
