Franschhoek Cape Town accommodation An original historic town situated in the heart of the Cape Winelands Franschhoek was founded in the 17th century by Simon van der Stel and the region was settled and planted with vines by French Huguenot wine farmers who were brought to the Cape by the Dutch settlers and who were responsible for pioneering the Cape wine industry of today. The Huguenot Monument in the town is a memorial to these immigrants.

Increased tourism in Franschhoek has led to the establishment of many accommodation venues in the area as well as the emphasis in the use of French names. The main road is lined with upmarket bistros, restaurants galleries and boutiques.
