The easiest way, by the way, to see what this site offers you is to browse my Home page, or site map. where you'll find lots of useful information.

Where to stay
Lets start with your accommodation. There are a lot of excellent choices of accommodation in Cape Town and a good number of pages on this site are devoted to this topic. It all depends on your budget and where you want to be. Starting with budget backpacker hostels, you gradually work your way up the scale to luxury hotels and villas.

Personally, I go for the typical mid range Cape Town Guest House - with a view of course, which is generally owner managed and offers a personal service to match, as well as lots of useful Cape Town vacation information. Here are links to pages I've devoted to some reputable establishments:

Chesterfield Manor Guest House
Eagles Nest Guest House
Cape Oasis Guest House

Marianella Guest House
Villa Hout Bay Heights

What to do
Having decided on your Cape Town vacation accommodation and established yourself comfortably, it's time to start appreciating our famous Cape attractions. Your itinerary will depend on whether you are taking a package tour or travelling independantly of course, but there's certainly a lot to see and do.

Here are some of the most well known Cape Town attractions

Cape Town V&A Waterfront
Your Cape Town vacation should at least include a visit to the V&A Waterfront. It is one of the most popular attractions in South Africa with its unique combination of craft markets, shops, entertainment, aquarium and restaurants, and the working harbour. Transport is available from Cape Town station. Give yourself a few hours to explore. Cape Town Waterfront

Your Cape Town vacation ..

Robben Island
The island about 10 kms from the Cape Town harbour on which Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for many years together with other political activists during Apartheid times. Book at the Nelson Mandela Gateway ferry terminal at the Waterfront and you get a guided tour of the prison. Give yourself half a day to appreciate the experience. More about Robben Island

Table Mountain
A natural attraction for most visitors to Cape Town. Bus or taxi transport from Cape Town Station to the lower Cable station. The cableway is closed in poor weather conditions but is usually open late into summer evenings. There is a restaurant and curio shop on the summit. Allow at least half a day of your Cape Town vacation, and more time if you intend hiking up the Mountain. More information here. Table Mountain

Kirstenbosch Gardens
These historic gardens on the slopes of Table Mountain are the most extensive of their kind in the country and carry one of the largest varieties of indigenous plants. They are also well known for hosting evening concerts in the summer months. You need a few hours to appreciate the many walks and displays. There are many attractions at the gardens including a restaurant, curio shops and indigenous nursery. More information here Kirstenbosch Gardens

Booking your flight ticket online
Always make sure you know which airline you're going to be booked on when flying to South Africa in case you need to make changes before you leave. Once you've booked and paid for a specific flight ticket, expect to pay extra if you want to move to another flight.

One of the best ways to find and book a cheap flight is by using an online system which searches for and compares the rates charged by all the airlines servicing the route you require. You simply enter your departure and arrival points and the dates of your flights, and you are presented with a list of the different airline ticket rates. You then select and book the airline you require.

I have placed such a script to the right of this text. Also use it to search for hotels and car hire at cheaper rates.

For more useful information go to my Cheap Flights page.
