Cape Town How much money?
by Maria
(Greece)
I am travelling from Greece to Cape Town this week end and I don't need to worry about accommodation expences. But I am going to plan trips, such as a safari, the garden 4-day route, the wine district and of course bringing some presents back for my family and friends, apart from the daily expenses.
I wonder how much money will I be needing proving that we will also be living at home as well. And should I be bringing cash or bring a small amount in cash and have my visa card with me?
I only have tomorrow to make bank arrangements about my budget, so please let me know as soon as possible.
Also if you are willing to suggest me how to plan my garden route trip, I would appreciate it. I will travel alone for that trip, so I wonder if it is easier, safer and less expensive to go on my own or should I book with a travel agency and which do you recommend?
Hello Maria,
Greetings from Cape Town! You're welcome to visit us and enjoy a Big 5 wildlife safari and/or a Garden Route tour, both of which I can arrange for you as I am an agent for the providers.
A Day Game Drive safari package during Dec 2009 for example would cost you ZAR2,050 inc. transport from Cape Town to the game reserve and back. A 50% deposit in advance would be necessary for the safari.
For safari details please view/download an information file here:
Safari InformationThe Garden Route tour leaves on a Tuesday and returns on Friday. As a single traveller it would cost you ZAR8,000 during Dec 2009 and this is inclusive of accommodation, all meals and entry point costs.
Here's two interesting information files for you to view/download:

Cape Town ToursRegarding how much money you'll need: My advice would be to stick to your credit/debit cards and carry minimal cash. There are plenty of top banks in Cape Town where you can arrange foreign exchange if necessary.

how much uk currency can i bring to south africa as a tourist
steve
Steve, as a tourist, if you're not an SA resident and you're not trading, the amount you can bring in would only be restricted by the fx controls of your own country.
