The region about 2 hours from Cape Town where Aquila
is situated is known as the historic Little
Karoo. The weather is mainly sunny by day and clear by night. The summers
are dry and
warm,
winters are dry and crisp. The weather in the reqion lends itself to long walks, hiking,
cycling and other outdoor sports activities.
You'll
certainly see many
varieties of animal and birdlife on the reserve. The big 5 are the
elephant, lion, buffalo, rhino and mountain
leopard. You'll also find Wildebeest, Zebra, Springbok, Caracal
(lynx), Blesbok, Bat Eared Fox, Giraffe, Ostrich, Klip
Springer, Duiker, Greybuck, Baboon, Jackal, Eland and lots more.

are some 172 different species of birds
on the reserve including the endangered Black Eagle, and Flamingos in
the wetlands.
